Meet our Board Member,  Maurice Hayman, who received his bachelors in Public Relations form Saint Augistine’s University, where he became a member of the Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society. He also received a Nonprofit Institute Certification from the University of Pennsylvania.

A multi-skilled professional with 15+ years’ experience in marketing and public relations, Maurice is currently the program and marketing director for the IDEA Center for the Arts, which provides multimedia and performing arts training for youth in Camden, NJ. His experience varies from developing marketing plans for politicians to lesson plans for academic institutions. Other collaborations and partnerships include NAMI, Youth Service, Inc., Delta Community Supports, and Camden Center for Youth Development, to name a few. Notably, after fulfilling his contract as the regional organizer for the Democratic National Party and deputy regional organizer for Enroll America, he received a letter from former president Obama recognizing his four-month campaign, which resulted in more than 5,000 Philadelphia residents having access to more affordable health care.

With a long history of creating or contributing to community-based leadership and educational programs and events, Maurice has organized a number of back-to-school giveaways, college fairs, and book drives. His passion for his community is clear, and he exercises that passion as a board member of The Free Books Project to help forward our mission to create opportunities for literacy.

Also a professional recording artist who’s toured across the U.S. as well as a husband and father to three beautiful children, Maurice excels at everything he puts his mind to and has ensured that his legacy lives on through the lives he enriches – whether in his career, volunteer work, family values, with his music, and especially on this Board.
