All of our books are donated, and 99% of those donated books are written in English. Yet, over 50% of the population The Free Books Project primarily serves is bilingual or Spanish-speaking. Will you help us do a better job of serving our communities by donating books in Spanish? As your friends, family, church, and even coworkers to do the same. This Saturday, Oct. 14, we’re back with another Events at The Free Books Place. Come join talented, passionate, and kind members of our community for some creativity and relaxation. Poet and community organizer Reet Starwind will lead an All Ages Poetry Cafe followed by an Art Meditation led by mixed media artists Nadine LaFond of Art Lives Studio and Kayla Simone of Kay Soul. The Free Books Project is kicking off our Free Events Series at The Free Books Place this Saturday, September 30! Artists and organizers will gather every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month to share their creativity and the joy of literacy with our community, and you’re invited! Back-to-school time is such an active time, especially for all of our eager readers out there. We were lucky enough to greet students Pre-K through 5th grade at Forest Hills Elementary School yesterday. Witnessing kids, parents and caregivers, and teachers and administrators alike happy and excited to start the new school year brought a great deal of joy to my heart. The Super Blue Moon is upon us. It will rise just after sunset today at 7:10 PM EDT and will set tomorrow morning just before the sun rise. A Blue Moon is when a calendar month has two full moons, and they’re pretty rare, hence the common phrase “once in a blue moon.” Even though this saying often refers to things we don’t do often, they are still beautiful and we look forward to them
Meet our Board Member, Maurice Hayman, who received his bachelors in Public Relations form Saint Augistine’s University, where he became a member of the Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society. He also received a Nonprofit Institute Certification from the University of Pennsylvania. A multi-skilled professional with 15+ years’ experience in marketing and public relations, Maurice is currently the program and marketing director for the IDEA Center for the Arts, which provides multimedia and performing
